Life is all about metamorphosis- Disney turned every young girl into a princess, Victoria Secret turned women into angels, and Baronés Lovey De Luxe, writer and editor-in-chief of Dirty Glamour Magazine turns women into their deepest desires. What’s the difference between the three? Disney and Victoria’s Secret depiction of women have had long-term psychological effects that have proven to be detrimental to a woman’s self-esteem. Dirty Glamour Magazine is the counter-argument! Dirty Glamour magazine depicts women in all their glory to boost self-esteem, self-worth, self-actualization, and identity. Every individual, especially women have a story to tell and Dirty Glamour Magazine exhibit their story with writings, artistic expressions and renderings that shows how each woman is special. All women are beautiful! Dirty Glamour Magazine proves it by showing the before and after photos of each woman depicted. No matter the age, shade, body type- every woman is shown as alluring and charming in fantastically developed artistic scenery.
One of the articles that stood out to me reading the magazine was Timeless Glow. The article was about the value of women in society. With age, the value of women goes down because of the perceived social norm is that older women are not attractive. However, Baronés Lovey De Luxe makes it a point to disprove that notion. When you look at the transformation of the model depicted, you see how a naturally aged woman is turned into a wanton butterfly. In the rendering, you see poise, style, and elegance as she hovers over a glowing, beautiful flower. The picture exhibits maturation, couth, and confidence- no need to portray exploited and exaggerated body parts of the female figure to show beauty and attraction. Rather, the viewer is seduced by the dreamy atmosphere as the butterfly – delicate and care-free – floats towards their desire, inspiration, and purpose. Additionally, the beautiful portrayal is accompanied by a detailed article providing the reader the inspiration and context behind the content. The writer provides an explanation for the butterfly theme by expressing that “Instead of playing along with the mainstream ideas of women and aging. It is a new time where women are defining their value and they are timeless.” Therefore, the intended audience is engulfed with beautiful artwork and social commentary that will inform, inspire, and persuade them about ideas concerning the now-transformative social norms of women.
Timeless Glow is just one example of how the writer and editor-in-chief of Dirty Glamour Magazine Baronés Lovey De Luxe uses words and art to entrench her intended audience with themes of women’s identity and empowerment. Throughout the publication the reader is engulfed with imaginative boudoir photography that shows women transition from everyday people to powerful and enticing artwork. One of the pics that stood out to me was the Morgana from King Arthur photo. You have a deviant, evil Morgana that is seductive and imperious. Although, she may not be good for you, visually you radiate towards her because her gravitational pull is too strong! Additionally, it shows that power is attractive.
The reader uncovers a similar theme when you look at the same model but in a different setting as a military pin-up biker. She is shown as powerful, badass, risk-taker, free spirit, and untouchable! Moreover, the themes of free spirited fun as prevalent throughout the magazine. Artwork that represent these themes are the poker pin up with a carefree woman riding a bottle of alcohol surrounded by money, cards, and poker chips. It reminds me of the infamously sexist man’s ruin tattoo without the negative connotation. Have fun, take risks, and live life- no one wants to live a blasé lifestyle is the message I interpreted. In other words, don’t be boring! Empowering women is not all work…it is fun and entertaining.
So, what is Dirty Glamour Magazine? Dirty Glamour Magazine is a collection artwork that focuses on transformation. Transforming women into artistic creations that portray passion and desire. Transformation that starts with a story, make over, a camera, and theme. The initiator of these creations goes by the name of Baronés Lovey De Luxe. However, she uses everyday people, especially women as muses to inspire her productions and content for Dirty Glamour Magazine. Her goal in her own words- “My tools; hair, makeup, photography and digital editing” all mixed a pot put together to create visions, aspirations, manifestations that will inspire people. In other words, give people a platform to express themselves in a very creative way.
